My Story

If you only have a minute, here are the highlights:

serial entrepreneur, mom, web developer, MBA grad, lifelong learner, community builder, problem solver.

And I help service-based business owners create their ideal website.

Here's a deeper look:

How It Began

My journey started in childhood where my father's backhoe business saw our kitchen table double as the office. I remember the snowstorms the most, that's when my sister and I became the dispatch team—answering phones and paging our Dad with the messages (hello, 1980s technology!)

But it was in university, when I took over his bookkeeping that I learned that for a small business owner, sometimes the paper and burden piled higher than the snow he plowed.

Building My Own Path

I like to say small business is in my blood—and I prepared for it by earning a BBA first, then a Graphic Design diploma and off I went to start a custom wedding invitation printing business with my future husband. We were so young and inexperienced—but that business grew into a full-service silkscreen and embroidery printing business - lasting 30 years! We even added a small local gym to our mix and we grew that to over 250 members.

What a journey it was - and these businesses taught us everything about small-town entrepreneurship and I'm proud to say, after 30 years, they recently sold to a new owner who will carry the torch forward.

When Community Called

Getting involved in my community felt natural, so I took a break from entrepreneurship and ran for Municipal Council. Those four years (2008-12) were eye-opening and honestly, pretty tough. Making decisions about tax rates, zoning, and infrastructure while dealing with public criticism taught me resilience and showed me how deeply municipal decisions affect local businesses. And it taught me how community supports help businesses to thrive.

This experience made me realize I needed to understand the bigger picture; the community ecosystem and how everything worked together so back to school I went to earn an MBA in Community Economic Development.

Following My Passion for Technology

After council, I had a wild idea: convert a truck into a mobile classroom to teach kids coding. I learned to code so I could teach kids programming and robotics across Nova Scotia communities. Those years showed me the power of making technology accessible and user-friendly.

Systems That Actually Work

My journey then took me to Cape Breton University, I became Manager of Process Operations where the admissions process was taking months. By mapping workflows and automating tasks, we reduced processing time from months to less than 10 days.

The real game-changer was implementing a new system. We could suddenly track each applicant's journey, provide better service, automate responses, and handle higher volumes without losing quality. I learned that the right systems don't just save time, they transform how businesses operate.

The opportunity to work alongside 'real' developers further developed my passion for code and design, and so one more time I went back to school to the Full Stack Web Development Program at University of Toronto and I loved every minute of it.

Where I Am Today

Today I'm Regional Development Manager with CEED, supporting entrepreneurs at every stage through coaching, mentoring, and leading training. I work with a team dedicated to growing the entrepreneurial ecosystem and I am grateful to be learning from our partners and the entrepreneurs we serve.

Yet I'm an entrepreneur at heart—so I created Kim Desveaux Digital Solutions to support entrepreneurs in a different way -- to help them build their digital presence and implement the right tools for their business and shine online. This is my passion project.

Through it All

Throughout the journey, my greatest joy came from being a mom. We raised our kids in our small community and as entrepreneurs we had the flexibility to balance our lives around what mattered most, time with our family.  Now, that they're grown, and I'm on my own, I have to say spending time with them is still my greatest joy.

At this stage, I'm energized by new challenges (recently starting taekwondo!), spending time with family and friends, hiking, hand embroidery, snuggling with my dog and launching Kim Desveaux Digital Solutions.

A Little More...

If I Can Do It, So Can You

When I work with female service business owners, I'm reminded of my own journey. I remember wearing all the hats, the frustration when systems don't support growth, and the dream of building something meaningful.

When women entrepreneurs shine, entire communities benefit. I invite you to check out my 3F Digital Transformation Framework—designed by an entrepreneur who's lived the journey and can help you move forward.
